I've been very happy with my ASUS EEE PC netbook. I use it primarily to get online and do a little bi of word processing, it works well for what I need it to do.

I finally updated all the bios, went into setup and changed the settings and now it works fine, I even like it a lot. A netbook that won't run on battery only is basically a tiny desktop, so that's what I got with this ASUS out of the box. Technical support was contradictory, everyone had a different fix, no one could ever find my service record and they wanted me to pay for all shipping. HOWEVER I suspect that this is why we see so many refurbished ASUS netbooks. You have to be really stubborn to get it to work and I came within an inch of just sending it back.

Although not as powerful as a "normal" laptop, this little jewel fills every function I need for mobile business and personal use. Just don't plan to play video-intensive gaming on it. VERY light to pack around - fits right in my purse. A Neopreme sleeve laptop cover came in the package too - which I didn't expect.

I've never really had all that much experience with Linux, but this thing makes it so easy, straight out of the box, that it's almost as easy to use as a Mac.I use my portable computers for their quick boot up speed and wireless connectivity.This does just as good as my Macbook Pro but with a much smaller footprint.While there is no DVD/CD the other ports are ample and conveniently placed. 3 different USB ports, a monitor port, memory card slot, and audio and mic jack is really great. Plus a traditional network plug for a physical connection if needed.I've never really used public wireless access points before, and today, that seemed a little slow. But on my home wireless network, this thing flys.It comes already loaded up with Open office so you don't need to invest MS-office to get work done, and it opened several office documents.The interface has a bare bones mac feel, without feeling bogged down, like most windows PC's.It also seems like a much smarter move than a Windows PC, at this price point.I did purchase mine refurbished, so I'll need to watch it closely, but so far it really seems like a slick and fully loaded product.

If, by any chance, something happens, you can always use the rescue image DVD, which will restore the original KDE configuration in less than 20 minutes. You need to have an external DVD unit, though.

Of course, since it is very small, it takes time to get used to the keyboard. The ASUS Eee PC 900 is a great ultra-portable computer.

Of course, you can always switch the OS to Windows XP SP2. It comes with a KDE Linux version that makes full use of the computer's features.

However, it is impossible to customize it, which is a clear disadvantage if you want to have your own wallpaper, etc. I decided to install Linux Mandriva Spring instead, which also works fine.

I recommend this computer to people who work in education.
